The Dynamic Interview Series
Because Marketing Shouldn’t Be Boring, and Neither Should Your Business.
Welcome to The Dynamic Interview Series, where we shine a spotlight on small businesses doing big things.
This is where we sit down with real people from real businesses and talk about what they actually do, why it matters, and what makes them awesome.
At Dynamic Spark, we believe in amplifying local businesses. So whether you’re a startup trying to get noticed or an established biz that’s too humble to brag, we’ll do the bragging for you.
Episode 4: Hugh Hernesman of Jax Skyline Juniors
Building Champions On and Off the Court: A Conversation with Hugh Hernesman of Jacksonville Skyline Volleyball
In this edition of The Dynamic Interview Series, I sat down with Hugh Hernesman, Co-Director of Jacksonville Skyline Volleyball, to talk about the explosive growth of one of Florida’s fastest-rising volleyball clubs. Hugh brings more than 20 years of Division I coaching experience, a deep commitment to athlete development, and a perspective shaped by both rebuilding collegiate programs and building a competitive club from the ground up. This interview offers a candid look at what it takes to develop athletes the right way, build a culture families want to be part of, and create a pathway that prepares players for college-level volleyball.
Meet Sam Carpenter
Artist, maker, and the creative mind behind Micro Landscapes, where handcrafted miniature golf course replicas become jaw-dropping works of art. Sam left the corporate grind to pursue something wildly different: a niche, high-end business rooted in beauty, memory, and meticulous detail.
In this episode, we talk about:
-
Turning a childhood passion into a full-blown business
-
Why handcrafted beats 3D-printed (every time)
-
Making art that sparks emotion, and conversation
-
Finding the right customers for a one-of-a-kind product
Sam’s story is about craftsmanship, courage, and creating something the world didn’t know it needed, but now can’t stop talking about.

Hugh and his wife Steph launched Jacksonville Skyline in 2017 with a simple mission: bring high-level, college-caliber training to athletes in Northeast Florida. What started with zero athletes at their first tryout has grown into more than thirty teams, a dedicated eight-court facility, and a reputation for teaching, organization, and long-term development.
In our conversation, Hugh shares the full journey, including his background in collegiate coaching at Hardin-Simmons, Ball State, Northwestern State, and Clemson, and how those experiences shaped Skyline’s training systems. We talk about how Master Training works, why strength and performance training are built into the club structure, and how owning their facility transformed their ability to develop athletes consistently year-round.
Hugh also opens up about the challenges parents face when entering the youth volleyball world, how to navigate expectations around playing time, and the importance of choosing a club that focuses on teaching rather than simply collecting wins. His stories about the program’s alumni, from top Division I recruits like Mari King to hard-working athletes who grew their way up the depth chart, highlight how Skyline defines success far beyond tournament results.
If you’re a volleyball parent, a club director, or simply someone who cares about youth development done well, this interview offers sharp insight, practical guidance, and a refreshing look behind the scenes of a club that runs with integrity, clarity, and care.

Meet Dan LaCloche
A video producer, content strategist, and the guy your marketing team wishes they had on speed dial. Dan is the one who walks into a brainstorming meeting and calmly says, “Maybe you don’t need a video…yet.” (And we love him for that.)
Dan helps overwhelmed marketing teams and businesses turn their ideas into videos that connect with audiences—without the fluff, the jargon, or the headache. He’s got the technical skills and the storytelling chops to make video magic happen.
